#75 Building Blocks

Your body needs constant rejuvenation. Every second of every day, every cell in your body is producing ATP (the energy that allows life). New cells are born, they perform their individual functions, produce wastes, then die off so new cells can take their place to keep the machinery chugging along.

Contrary to the views propounded by modern Western allopathic medicine, the human organism is comprised of separate systems, all functioning cleanly along until a foreign invader throws a monkey wrench into the whole operation. No, my friends, our fragile bodies are composed of innumerable interconnected systems supporting and controlling each other in a delicate balance of electrical and chemical transactions promulgated by dietary and emotional instigations.

To keep this machinery operating smoothly, we must make sure our building blocks are of the highest quality and in precise quantities.

Let’s look at two such building blocks.

Cheez It Crackers, made by Kellogg’s, are so addictive (according to their own TV spots) that you simply can’t put them down. My favorite ad is the one where the company is doing a laboratory “taste testing” and the participants go crazy and overwhelm the lab proctors.

Here is the official list of ingredients, directly from the Cheez Its website.

Ingredients: Enriched flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, vitamin B1 [thiamin mononitrate], vitamin B2 [riboflavin], folic acid), vegetable oil (high oleic soybean, soybean, palm, and/or canola oil with TBHQ for freshness), cheese made with skim milk (skim milk, whey protein, salt, cheese cultures, enzymes, annatto extract color). Contains 2% or less of salt, paprika, yeast, paprika extract color, soy lecithin.

I’m simply going to refer to my previous article about the Four Horsemen of the Health Apocalypse.

Look closely at the list of “building blocks” in America’s favorite snack. Wouldn’t you know it, it looks like the ingredients I listed in my article. Fake flour, fake oils, fake sugar, fake flavor. Notice how they added some B vitamins to the batch? According to my internet search, it is to help the body make energy out of the hot garbage they assembled in that “food.”

They add vitamins to help your body process the product. (Oh, and so they can say on the box it’s a nutritious source of B vitamins – so it’s healthy for you).

I could do this all day with hundreds of products. And I do actually, because I want to save you a ton of work yourselves, because I find it interesting (and disgusting) how we are being sold, and because I’m that frigging boring. It sucks to be a nerd.

Now I ask you, if you were building a skyscraper, would you construct it with balsa wood and paper mâché?

I hope you weren’t about to say yes just so you can eat hot garbage.

You would actually want to build a skyscraper with steel beams and concrete and high strength materials that can withstand inclement weather.

When you choose food type products that come in brightly colored boxes and bags that promise health, energy, and vitality, you are really eating balsa wood and paper mâché. (Interestingly enough, when a powdered product includes ‘cellulose’ in its ingredient list – that actually is sawdust. It’s to keep the powdered product from clumping. Chew on that a while – no, I meant mentally)

Let’s look at an apple. It’s comprised of natural glucose and fructose imbedded in a fiber matrix. It’s filled with antioxidants and micronutrients and vitamins.

An apple is easily recognized. The body can break it down, separate the parts, absorb them into the bloodstream, and put the pieces to use building your beautiful body.

The ingredients used to make snack foods are simply chemicals combined in a way to fool your brain and create a desire for more. The chemicals in those foods are not recognized by the body. When the stomach starts breaking down these foods, it takes longer because the right enzymes and acids must be brought to bear to annihilate things like Pop Tarts, Hostess anything, Eggo Waffles, ad so on. When these Frankenfoods reach your small intestine, the chemicals are absorbed into your bloodstream. When these chemical abominations start floating around in your blood, the immune system treats this as a foreign invader. It goes on high alert and begins fighting the food you just ate. What can’t be destroyed by the immune system is then stored around the liver as visceral fat. Meanwhile, the immune system keeps fighting each meal you eat. If the immune system stays on high alert fighting your food for too long, you develop systemic inflammation. The joints will ache, the skin will break out, digestion will slow, the bowels will change their habits, you may get sick more often because a compromised immune system hasn’t the energy to fight a head cold and your dinner. Prolonged systemic inflammation can lead to autoimmune disorders.

Apple, carrot, nuts, avocado, Pop Tarts, Cheez Its, Coca Cola; it makes a dramatic difference to your body.

There are currently more than 80 Autoimmune Disorders, and their symptoms overlap. This is why it’s so hard for doctors to diagnose which one you’ve got. (Also, they don’t want to misdiagnose and then be subject to litigation)

Please understand this is a rather severe simplification of things. There’s so much more to all this. So before you go on a comment tantrum rampage, please accept that years before my cancer and diabetes diagnosis in 2020, I’ve read dozens (not exaggerating) of books on these subjects. I’m summarizing thousands of pages of text to bring you this one simple question.

With each bite you put in your mouth, are you building a skyscraper or an outhouse?

Much love,
